Biei's Patchwork Road (Patchwork no Michi) is a network of gently rolling country lanes winding through a mosaic of brilliantly coloured agricultural fields — wheat, sunflowers, lavender, potatoes, and beet — that change pattern with each season but peak in vivid splendour from June to August. Named for its resemblance to a patchwork quilt when viewed from elevated points, the area is dotted with landmark trees such as the famous Ken and Mary Tree and the Seven Stars Tree that appear in Japanese advertising. Cycling rental shops in Biei town make self-guided tours easily accessible, and the broader Furano-Biei Panorama Road extends the scenic route considerably. The area is also a base for drone photography and guided landscape tours.
