Held each August along the Chubetsu River near central Asahikawa, this fireworks festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in the Dohoku region of Hokkaido. Thousands of shells including large starmines and creative hanabi compositions are fired in a programme lasting approximately 90 minutes. The flat terrain of central Asahikawa allows unobstructed views from vast riverside parks and bridges. Food stalls, beer gardens, and folk performances fill the surrounding areas throughout the day.
